Review and accept the testing work
plan for the corrosion of roofing and screen enclosure fasteners research
project. Dr. Kurtis Gurley of the College
of Engineering at the University of Florida provided a PowerPoint
presentation to give the TAC an overview of the experimental scope of the research
project. He let the TAC members know that the corrosion testing equipment had
arrived and was in the process of being setup and calibrated. He also gave
the TAC a reminder of the capacity and testing constraints of the new testing
equipment. The TAC raised concerns about
making sure some of the fastener specimens were a representation of the
fasteners used throughout Florida and not just types used to the Gainesville
area. Dr. Gurley noted that they would be acquiring fastener specimens from some
of the most prominent fastener distributors throughout Florida as a starting
point. The TAC then raised concerns about the specimens being acquired from
different distributors and still being of the same batch of fasteners sent
throughout the state. Dr. Gurley pointed out to the TAC that this study is
only covering a small representation of what is out there in the marketplace.
He noted that there could be future research completed in this area. Dr. Gurley
then stated that the significant cost of the testing equipment has already
been covered by this research project and any future research in this area
would cost significantly less.
A motion was entered by Mark Zehnal and seconded by Bob
Boyer to accept the interim report as presented. The motion was passed
unanimously. |
7) |
Public Comment – A public comment was made by Dwight Wilkes that raised the
question of the testing of non-exposed fasteners. Dr. Gurley responded that
fasteners would be in an exposed configuration as well as a non-exposed
configuration. |
