1) |
Meeting

with a slight delay, quorum was met.
There was a motion by Jim Schock, seconded
by Jack Glenn, to accept the Agenda and February 28, 2013 minutes as posted. |

Mr. Madani introduced
the first agenda item which was to review and accept final reports from the
University of Florida regarding research performed under the auspices of the
Florida Building Commission and the Department. Dr. Kurtis R. Gurley, PhD., and research staff provided a
presentation on University of Florida final research on Asphalt Shingles and
Roofing Tiles and water ingress through the building façade. For further details, please see the
attached power point presentations regarding the said research. Final
Report for the Windborne Debris Study: As part of the
contractual agreement with University of Florida (UF) to conduct technical
research for improving wind resistance of buildings, the contractor “UF
research team” presented the Commission’s Hurricane Research Advisory
Committee (HRAC) the final reports on the research. UF has conducted research to evaluate the
wind resistance of asphalt shingle roof systems and roof tile systems and
wind-driven rain penetration resistance of buildings. The objectives of this research was to
evaluate the effects of aging on shingle roof, to understand the performance
of hip and ridge attachments in strong winds, and to provide guidelines for
the design and installation of building products and systems intended to
prevent water ingress from wind-driven rain.
In addition to the research, UF staff reported on the on-going task to
survey and investigate buildings damaged by hurricanes and to provide
maintenance to equipment when and if such events would take place in the
future. At the end of the meeting, the
HRAC accepted the final reports and deemed the final report satisfactory. A motion to accept
these reports was submitted by Tim Reinhold, seconded by Jack Glenn. Vote was taken via roll call with unanimous
approval. |
3) |
Having no further
commission business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 10:45am. |
