Grounds for waiver.

10. Grounds for Waiver: The Florida Building Commission may grant waivers of Florida-specific accessibility requirements upon a determination of unnecessary, unreasonable or extreme hardship. Please describe how this project meets the following hardship criteria. Explain all that would apply for consideration of granting the waiver.

NOTE:**

The Clinton Hotel was designed by renown architect Charles Neilder and originally built in 1934. Over time, the hotel's owners have introduced measurements to comply with ADA regulations to the greatest extent possible. However, the unique layout and design of these buildings unfortunately do not provide enough space to accommodate all the measures necessary to bring the historic structures up to today's accessibility standards. Installation of a larger elevator would severely disrupt the historic integrity of the historic lobby area.

Estimates for ADA accessibility are provided: one estimate for the structural and electrical work associated with the installation of a compliant elevator ($933,000), and two estimates for the elevator ($166,000-Otis; $166,760- ThyssenKrupp). Accordingly the anticipated total for the elevator compliance work would amount to approximately $1,099,000 or approximately eight-two percent (82%) of the cost of the current renovations to the property.
