Question: I need to know for certain what is acceptable by code as the tributary area of a window/door/shutter system to be considered in the wind load analysis.
Answer: Determination of such tributary area is subject to accepted engineering practices (see ASCE 7 –02, Commentary for guidance).
Do Kim's report on the Board of Engineers' Workshop on Aluminum Structures and Master Plan Engineering. Do Kim stated that there is no firm recommendation at this time. The Board will make a determination at the upcoming meeting November 14, 2006. However, the committee did indicate that deemed to comply standards referenced in the code are not subject of concern and use of Master Plan is an anomaly. No other engineering practice utilizes the concept of Master Plan. They elaborated that plans need to be tied to specific site or project when the professional engineer is involved the design. Final determination of the subject was deferred to the November 14th meeting.
Discuss the intent of the code with regard to permanent foundations. Haydon Dempsey and Jodie Barrows agreed to submit a code change proposal for the 2007 Florida Building Code regarding their concerns.
Review and provide recommendations on the standard equivalency for FM 4881, TAS 201 and TAS 203. The committee discussed the FM 4881 and tabled to the next meeting to allow for further review.
