Meeting Objectives were:

  • To Review/Approve the agenda and minutes from the October meeting
  • To Consider Declaratory Statements
  • To Consider and Discuss the Topic Green Roof Mats
  • To Consider issues from the public and Committee

1. TAC reviewed/approved agenda and August 17 minutes

Attendees:   Chris Schulte, Chairman, Karen Warseck, Jimmy Buckner, Kenneth Everett, Charles Goldsmith, Jon Hamrick, and Bob Boyer were present.

2. Reviewed and provided recommendations to the Commission on the request for declaratory statements:

Question:  In the event of future re-roofing projects on a 4/12 slope roof, is one layer of code approved felt acceptable?

 

Answer:  Yes, as per section 1507.2.8 of the 2004 FBC, roof slopes of four units vertical in 12 units horizontal (33-percent slope) or greater, underlayment is required to be one layer. <emphasis added>

 

3. Green roof mat Discussion (Kevin Songer)  Kevin Songer was present to display and discuss his roofing product that incorporates synthetic barriers with natural plants.  The Committee provided information to the guest and gave guidance on showing compliance with the Florida Building Code through testing and evaluation.

5.  Member Comment – The Committee recommends starting a Green Roof Task force  for discussion on establishing guidelines regarding standards, windloads, and product approvals associated with the growing interest in green roofs.

 

The Committee also agreed that the addition of new code language in section 1507.2.8 Underlayment application needs to be made less ambiguous. 

For roof slopes from two units vertical in 12 units horizontal (17-percent slope), up to but not including, four units vertical in 12 units horizontal (33-percent slope), underlayment shall be two layers applied in the following manner.
