This chart is organized according to mod/proponent, section number, and a summary of the proposed change for modifications related to the Technical Advisory Committee’s (TAC) area of responsibility.  The proposals are listed sequentially by code section number for the base code designated.  The proposed mod numbers are assigned by the BCIS web site as they are received.  They are assigned to the TAC which administers that specific subject area.  Notations concerning where a proposal has been assigned for action are made in the Comments column. For example, if the first proposed modification to the base code FBC-Mechanical code is for section 603.1.2 (related to duct construction), it would be assigned to the Energy TAC because the issue is with the energy chapter in the building base code.  This chart can be used for quick reference and for tracking the status of proposals.

This code modification will provide clarity on the subject of small missile impact testing (Hail Resistance) for metal roofing systems. This exemption matches the exemption in the high velocity hurricane zone standard TAS 125.

Retain the use of Gravel and Stone roofing applications.

will provide uniform margins of safety to determine Design Pressures. A minimum margin of safety is absent in the Non-HVHZ section of the code. The HVHZ section of the code ( 1523.4 ) requires a margin of safety of 2:1 for wind uplift resistance

2311: Currently in IBC. Makes sense. Think should be left in. If roof not installed well, gravel could be loose. During hurricanes, flying gravel could adversely impact adjacent buildings. Reroofing without adequate slope bad.

2093: Would make it uniform. How BO determine if safety factor 2-1 is there? FM reports test pressure. BO often require safety factor be doubled. Should be within the reqts of product approval system, not in code section.

2313: need to clarify how existing language should be treated. Resubmitted: FBC language there. Where do manufacturer’s find reqts for fasteners. Little in code; 2006 Suppl. Current language creates problems with mfrs. How do we know mfr are meeting any std? Find lack of compliance. Not clear if they meet code. Currently a minimum standard; need a standard. Design for each part of a system.

2555 addresses corrosion resistance.

Philips:  Section added to Supplement. Appears to apply to all types of roofing. Address ASTM 153 A90. Also change from 1.5 to .90 oz/s.f.

Propose add “or TAS 114E” to mod.

Second. 1-9 NAR

Adds new reference standard for wind tunnel testing. Places lower bound limits on the results determined from wind tunnel testing.

Second. 2-6 NAR

Why add to code instead of ASCE 7? Why not wait? Expect to be in 2010 edition. Get variations of up to 40%.  Provides better avenue for scientific backup. Why not put into section on wind tunnel testing. Was “80%” intended to be relevant to windows and walls? Yes. Fix typo ofr. Should be Exception 1. Provision is not in ASCE 7; could be different. 40% variation between labs not important. Standard not available at meeting.

Handed out amended language. Had to line up with 2007 Supplement. Clarifying description of surface roughness categories. Cost significant. Expect to fine-tune it by May. Mod taken from Commentary; attempt made to simplify it.  Open patch width should be 164’ not 98. This is not practical. Will cause everything to be Exposure C; no take on added cost. ASCE 7 committee did not intend this to apply to inland areas. Amend 98’ to 164’ and accept 660 as correct number. 8-0.Amend Exposure C to say “open area”, not “opening”. Also change “patches” to “open area”. Change 182.9m should be 200 meters. Lack of cost data & last minute nature of word-smithing reasons for 2 negative votes. Reconsider 2662. 8-9 Motion to table.

Instructions.  Water infiltration problems in new construction workmanship issues, window products not comply with 15 design pressure.  Jack, not code language, prescriptive alternative, addresses what manuf. Instructions do not address.  George, helpful to have prescriptive req.  Needs code language, preliminary statement that is alternative prescriptive method.  Rusty, needs opening statement.  Do, do we show positive message?  Dan, does this language belong in the code?  Manuf. Instructions are responsibility of manuf.  Code should set standards.  Add to an AAMA standard?  Charlie, belongs in ASTM E 2112.  Craig, submitted to ASTM E 2112 06 Committee.  Received negative comments when submitted to AAMA.  Jack abstained.
