#71 – by Dean Vaughn – Section 101.5 – 2007 FBC.

Question:         In accordance with the Florida Building Code – Existing Building Volume (FBC-EB), Section 101.5, if the applicant has selected the Prescriptive Compliance Method of Section 101.5.1 for an existing building, where the majority of the building is involved in an alteration and addition, must the entire work area and building comply with Chapter 3 of FBC-EB?  The occupancy in question would require fire sprinklers under the current edition of the Florida Building Code and the existing building is not sprinklered.

Answer: Yes, the work area must comply.
