Program

This program established research programs, which identified radon sources in Florida and developed construction methods to prevent radon entry into commercial and residential facilities. Through analysis of the specific construction methods and materials employed in Florida, cost effective techniques were identified and incorporated into construction standards for use in new construction and mitigation of radon in existing construction. Three standards were developed by the close of research: a passive standard for new residential construction, a standard for new commercial construction, and a standard for mitigation of radon in existing buildings. Adoption of the standards is by individual counties; the standards apply uniformly to the entire jurisdiction that adopts the standards.
