*Briefly explain why the request has now been referred to the Commission.

The elevator requirment in ASME A18.1 Sec. 2.7.1. to reach the floor height greater than 168 in (14 ft), increases the cost of a vertical platform lift to a LU/LA lift or more robust system. These systems are beyond 20% of the cost of alteration.

Requirements to be Waived.

Issue 3: Florida-specific hotel/motel rooms  Minimum height in parking structures  Accessible parking

Grounds for waiver.

10. Grounds for Waiver: The Florida Building Commission may grant waivers of Florida-specific accessibility requirements upon a determination of unnecessary, unreasonable or extreme hardship. Please describe how this project meets the following hardship criteria. Explain all that would apply for consideration of granting the waiver.

NOTE:**

Need Additional Space

The project began in hope to use a vertical platform lift for the rare case an employee needed to be brought to the second level, and by the advisory of the lift vendor was presumed to be satisfactory. After reviewing, the second level height was greater than 14 ft, which does not allow vertical platform lifts. This triggered the need for a LULA lift, which was outside the budget. The office is split between the first and second floor with the first floor having all accessibility requirements.

Comments:
The function of this space upstairs is for executive offices. The office space downstairs is
ADA compliant, and includes offices, workstations and a conference room for the needs of
any individual that would need accessible building components.

The cost of the contracted Florida Lifts proposal is $98,000, also requiring additional
associated costs in order to install and use per code guidelines. The associated costs
would include steel columns, steel framing, concrete footings, elevator pit, an accessible
ramp, hoistway enclosure, door installation, lighting, ventilation, electrical connection, and
labor resulting in an upwards cost of +$120,000. This total cost is greater than 20% of the
project cost and is a significant cost burden limiting the ability to do the project. This
