Description: 
When complete, the site will feature a public garden with educational exhibits focusing on the life and work of poet Elizabeth Bishop. This outdoor component will be open to the public 5 days a week and will have accessible pathways and an accessible ground-floor restroom facility. The interior of the house will include offices for everyday administrative use and occasional exhibits for the public.

Remaining construction cost estimated at $345,000. This includes historic restoration of cistern porch and related mechanical; remaining restoration of historic windows and shutters; new construction of accessible restroom structure at NW corner of lot; and accessible pathways connecting restroom to public right-of-way. Estimate includes site work, architectural, and other services required to achieve the work. Does not include landscaping elements nor furnishings, fixtures, equipment.

Work to-date has consisted of lead paint mitigation, structural repairs, new AC system, repairs to existing plumbing system, partial restoration of historic windows and shutters, painting, and miscellaneous renovations. Cost includes site work, engineering, architectural, and planning services which were required to achieve the work.

We contacted the State Historic Preservation Office for guidance regarding vertical accessibility following the completion of essential structural repairs and historic preservation work. After discussion, that office advised to apply for a waiver.
